Eight vying for board slots

July 09, 2006|By GINA DAVIS

The race for three open seats on the Carroll County school board expanded to a field of eight candidates by last week's filing deadline. The six top vote-getters in the Sept. 12 primary election will proceed to the Nov. 7 general election, said Patricia Matsko, the county's election director.

The candidates are:

George E. Maloney of New Windsor

Gary Bauer of Westminster

Patricia W. Gadberry of Sykesville

Ernest F. Sharff of Westminster

Barbara Shreeve of Manchester

Eric M. Weber of Westminster

Dan Dekowski of Sykesville

Dave Roush of Westminster

The nonpartisan elections for the five-member school board are staggered, with two seats open in presidential election years and three slots available in the years of gubernatorial contests. School board members are elected to four-year terms.
