Learn to make greeting cards at The Other Barn

The Oakland Mills Community Association will present "Stamping with Gina," a workshop on creating greeting cards with a professional look, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 18 at The Other Barn in Oakland Mills Village Center, 5851 Robert Oliver Place.

The cost is $10 plus a $4 materials fee.

Monopoly tourney is set for Saturday

The east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, will sponsor a Monopoly tournament for youth ages 11 to 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Participants should take a lunch. Snacks will be served.

Free concerts -- Free Monday night concerts at Lake Elkhorn are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Slim Harrison & Sunny land Music will perform. The Dixie Power Trio will play New Orleans jazz July 17, and Walt Michael will entertain with American music and its roots July 24. A performance by the Kinderman is scheduled for July 31. The concerts will be held at the band shell (the red gazebo) at the spillway. In case of inclement weather, the shows will be held in the pavilion at the lake. Free ice cream -- The Howard County Farmer's Market in Oakland Mills Village Center will hold a free ice-cream day, sponsored by Columbia Bank, on Tuesday. The market, which is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, carries vegetables, fruits, flowers and fresh baked goods. Sweet corn and peaches will be available, starting Tuesday. Future ice-cream days are planned for Aug. 15 and Sept. 12. The market is held on the parking lot of Oakland Mills Village Center, on Robert Oliver Place. Sandy Cederbaum, 410-730-4610.

Bridge -- A drop-in bridge program is being offered from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesdays at the 50+ Center at the east Columbia library. A 30-minute lecture is included. Players at all levels are welcome to refresh skills, learn bridge conventions and meet friends. Mentoring is available. The cost is $6. 410-290- 5430.

At Long Reach -- Long Reach Community Association is offering "Top Dogg" martial arts classes through Aug. 1. A class for tots is offered from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; a class for children ages 7 and older and adults is to be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost for the eight-week class is $169. Cardio-kickboxing for ages 16 and older is offered from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $189 ($220 for couples). Candidates forum -- Columbia Democratic Club will hold a candidates forum at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jeffers Hill Neighborhood Center, 6030 Tamar Drive. Market tales -- The east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, is offering "Market Tales," a program of stories with summer themes, songs and a craft for children to age 5 (children to age 3 must be accompanied by an adult) at 10:30 a.m. and at 2:30 p.m. Thursdays, through Aug. 31. The program will be held while the farmers' market is in the library parking lot. Tickets will be distributed at the children's desk a half-hour before each event. 410-313- 7730.
