DR. VED PARKASH, D.V.M., Ph.D., loving husband and devoted father, of Salisbury, MD passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2006. Dr. Parkash was born in Sibi, India, and received his D.V.M. from the Punjab College of Veterinary Medicine in Hissar, India. He then immigrated to the United States to study at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo. He received his master's degree in veterinary medicine and surgery and his Ph.D. in reproductive endocrinology from the University of Missouri. Dr. Parkash continued his training as a post-doctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. At Hopkins, his research focused on the development of the intra-uterine device (IUD). After Hopkins, Dr. Parkash worked at New York University's Medical Center as the chief clinical veterinarian, caring for and working with primates. Upon leaving NYU, Dr. Parkash began his lifelong career as a public health veterinarian with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Dr. Parkash was an avid horticulturist and devoted animal lover. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his pets. Surviving him are his loving wife, Asha Parkash, and son, Bhanu Magoon of Salisbury; sons, Chander Magoon of Texas and Anand Magoon of Maryland; daughter, Vinita Magoon of New Jersey; and several faithful pets. Five brothers; one sister; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. A private funeral was held June 24 and a service was held for him June 25 at The Hindu Temple of Metropolitan Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Dr. Parkash's honor to Lower Shore Enterprises, PO Box 1692, Salisbury, Md. 21802.
