Howard History

Fireworks were not the only aerial display in Howard County on July 4, 1910. Enterprise Grocery Co. of Ellicott City promoted its big sale ("Quality Up, Prices Down") with a balloon ascent and parachute jump from the Main Street store, the prize of the day being a coupon for "a large sack of flour free." And those who failed to catch the display needn't have fretted - Enterprise even had a telephone, and reminded customers, "Our wagon delivers goods within a radius of 5 miles."
