NORTH

Nature center plans campfire program

Charlotte's Quest Nature Center, 3400 Wilhelm Lane, Manchester, will hold a Summer Campfire Program from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 14 for all ages.

S'mores and family activities will be featured.

The cost is $3 for members and $4 for nonmembers, or $15 per family.

Library offers events for kids and teens

North Carroll branch library, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, will offer:

"The Tortoise and the Hare" puppet show for all ages (3 and younger with an adult) at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

The North Carroll Book Discussion Group for ages 9 to 13 at 6:45 p.m. July 10 to discuss Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli.

"Reflections of You" for teens at 7 p.m. July 11. Teens are asked to take small items that reflect their interests and what is important to them to create a mirror collage.

"Kidsinger Jim: Positive-ly Fun Rock Concert" at 10:30 a.m. July 12. Guitarist, songwriter and performer Jim Hossick invites children of all ages for singing, acting, reading and dancing. Children 3 and younger must be with an adult.

St. Paul's welcomes new pastor today

St. Paul's United Methodist Church will welcome its new pastor, the Rev. Helen Armiger, at 9 a.m. today.

Sunday school will not be held today. A continental breakfast will be served.

The church will hold its annual crab cake sale July 14. Crab cakes must be ordered by July 9. To order, call 410-775-2060.

Vacation Bible school will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 17-21 with the theme "Treasure Seekers." Children age 3 to fifth grade can participate. A picnic will conclude Bible school at 6:30 p.m. July 21.

The church's next book club meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. July 25 to discuss Night by Elie Wiesel.

Taneytown branch offers programs

The Taneytown library branch, 10 Grand Drive, will offer:

"Drop-in Crafts" for all ages (children ages 3 and younger with an adult) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow.

"Reptiles: Diversity in Scales" for ages 7 to 12 at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Richard Anderson of the Snyder Foundation for Animals will share more than 70 reptile specimens, including an African spurred tortoise.

Zion United to hold picnic

Zion United Methodist Church will hold its 124th annual Sunday School Picnic from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church, 2716 Old Washington Road, Shipley.

The event features a flea market and craft sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The picnic will include fried chicken platters starting at 11 a.m., with choice of side dishes for $5.50. Sandwiches, ice cream, watermelon, candy and baked goods also will be available.

Other activities include musical entertainment from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. by the Gospel Travelers and Salem Bottom Boys.

O'Malley to speak at Democratic Club

The South Carroll Democratic Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the South Carroll Senior Center, 5745 Bartholow Road, Eldersburg.

The featured speaker will be Baltimore Mayor and gubernatorial candidate Martin O'Malley.

SOUTHWEST

Classic Chevy Club celebrates Damascus

The Heart of Maryland Classic Chevy Club will participate in the annual Celebrate Damascus event Friday and Saturday in Damascus.

Activities include a parade at 7 p.m. Friday starting at the Weis Market shopping center. Live entertainment, fireworks and food from the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department will be featured afterward on the firehouse grounds.

Saturday's activities will include a community flea market and car and truck cruise-in for all makes of vehicles at Damascus Chevy from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

An oldies dance, featuring Big Cam & the Lifters, will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the fire hall. Tickets are $10; those interested are urged to buy them in advance.
