Meet The Band

Mark Hopkins Band

June 29, 2006|By MARC SHAPIRO

Hometown -- Baltimore

Current members --Rob Ignozzi, drums and percussion; Ryan LaHam, bass; Mark Hopkins, guitars, vocals and keyboards

Founded in --2005

Style --electric singer/songwriter pop

Influenced by --Paul McCartney, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Jaco Pastorius, Stewart Copeland

Notable --Hopkins left his previous band, Tribe of Ben, to move in a more mature musical direction. He says he tries to write intelligent music with lyrics that tell stories. The band will release an EP, Angry Mob, this summer and hopes to release a full-length album next year.

Quotable --"It's a trio, and it's super raw," Hopkins said. "I think people lose sight of the raw and energetic music a trio can make. You never know from night to night what is going to happen. ... If you don't take risks and fall on your face a few times, you'll never grow as a musician."

Hear the Mark Hopkins Band tonight at Cheers Bar and Grill, 1969 E. Joppa Road in Parkville. The show starts at 9 p.m., and there is a $5 cover. This show is 21 and older. For more information, call 410-655-7923 or visit .
