Rape charges are dropped

Evidence against two called insufficient

June 23, 2006

Prosecutors have dropped charges against two men accused of raping a 19-year-old woman in Columbia, deciding that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the case, said a spokesman for the Howard County state's attorney's office.

Nathaniel Devon Yarborough, 19, and Ryan Quinton Fassett, 22, both of Columbia, faced charges of second-degree rape and second-degree and third-degree sex offenses after a police officer claimed to have seen three people sexually assaulting a woman in a car in the 10100 block of Twin Rivers Road in Columbia last month.

Prosecutors dropped all charges against Yarborough and Fassett on June 15 and yesterday, respectively, said T. Wayne Kirwan, a Howard County state's attorney's office spokesman.

A 15-year-old boy still faces charges in the case.
