On nights like these, Daniel Cabrera usually dominates. On the occasions this season before last night, when his normally erratic control is good enough, when he is not handing out walks at a prodigious rate, Cabrera had gone deep into games and held offenses to a minimum.

But last night, the Florida Marlins defied what has been true about Cabrera this season in the same way they are starting to defy their hideously low expectations. The hottest team in the major leagues pounded the Orioles right-hander for six earned runs and a career-worst three home runs and got a solid outing from ace Dontrelle Willis en route to a franchise-record-tying ninth straight win, a 6-2 decision before 18,333 at Camden Yards.
