ACS elects Appletree as its president

Roy Appletree, executive director of FIRN Inc. (Foreign-born Information and Referral Network) has been elected president of the Association of Community Services.

Lois Mikkila, president of LMK Consulting, was elected vice president. She is a member of the board of FIRN and the advisory board for the Volunteer Center Serving Howard County.

Rene Buckmon, executive director of the Columbia Teen Center, is secretary, and Jay Herbert Blackman, senior vice president of Operations at Howard County General Hospital, is treasurer.

The organization is a network of 150 nonprofit, for-profit and government agencies and community advocates for human services in Howard County.

Neighbor Ride appoints Thompson

Susan M. Thompson has been appointed executive director of Neighbor Ride, a local nonprofit volunteer organization that provides transportation for Howard County residents ages 60 and older.

She was most recently executive director of the Women's Housing Coalition in Baltimore.

Manekin brokerage hires Masi, Martien

Greg Masi has been hired as a vice president and Bill Martien as a senior sales and leasing associate at Manekin LLC's brokerage division.

Masi, formerly a senior vice president at Transwestern Commercial Services, will be responsible for the sale and leasing of office buildings. He lives in Ellicott City and has been active in shipwreck diving for more than 30 years.

Martien will work with buyers and sellers of real estate between the Baltimore and Washington beltways. He was a senior vice president of IRC Real Estate Services, and is a resident of the District of Columbia.

Both will work from the company's Columbia headquarters.
