Two men were fatally shot over the weekend in separate and apparently unrelated incidents in West Baltimore. No arrests had been made and police knew of no motives in the slayings.

The latest reported homicide occurred about 12:30 a.m. yesterday after a man seen leaving Fireside Liquors in the 1600 block of N. Smallwood St. in the Rosemont community stopped to talk to another man, witnesses told police.

During the brief exchange, one man pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the upper body and a hip, police said, adding that he died a short time later at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police responding to a shooting in the 2800 block of Ellicott Drive found a man lying in the street with multiple wounds. He died about an hour later at Shock Trauma.

Names of the victims were withheld yesterday. Metro Crime Stoppers at 410-276-8888 is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in either slaying.
