Officials seek leader for Health Council

The Howard County public school system is accepting applications for the position of chair of the Howard County School Health Council.

The council provides leadership and advice to the superintendent of schools and the health officer on developing and promoting school health programs. The executive committee meets four times yearly; the full committee also meets four times a year.

Local school health councils are required by state law. Membership is drawn from the health, business, religious and volunteer communities, and includes parents and members of the school system and the Health Department.

Advisory panel seeks at-large members

The Citizens Advisory Committee to the Board of Education is seeking at-large members for the 2006-2007 school year.

The group of residents and representatives from local PTAs serves in an advisory capacity to the elected school board, sponsors educational programming for members and encourages them to study and comment on curriculum, education policy, redistricting and the budget.

The committee usually meets at 7:30 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month. At-large members serve two-year terms.

Dance theater to hold summer classes

Kinetics Dance Theatre, 3280 Pine Orchard Lane, Ellicott City, will offer summer classes for children and adults, as well as weeklong dance camps for new dancers, experienced dancers and Girl Scouts.

Children's classes will be available in ballet, tap, musical theater, hip-hop, ballet and jazz. Classes and camps begin this month and continue through the summer.
