Independence Day celebration in song

The second annual Greater Columbia Musical Independence Day Observance will be held at 6:30 p.m. July 1 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4100 St. John's Lane, Ellicott City.

Performers will include the Mormon Choir of Washington; Ellicott Brass; Our Lady of Perpetual Help traditional, contemporary and children's choirs; and the Men's Chorus of the First Baptist Church of Guilford.

Those who attend will be invited to join together in prayer and in singing American hymns in commemoration of Independence Day.

`Arctic' theme for vacation bible school

Glen Mar United Methodist Church, 8430 Glen Mar Road, Ellicott City, will hold three sessions of their vacation bible school, "Arctic Edge."

Sessions, for children age 4 through fifth grade, will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 10-14 and 9 a.m. to noon July 17-21.

Jazz guitarist Damon Foreman

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia will present a performance by jazz guitarist and singer Damon Foreman at its next One World Coffeehouse at 7 p.m. June 24 in the Owen Brown Interfaith Center, 7246 Cradlerock Way, Columbia.

Foreman has performed with Sonny Rollins, Wynton Marsalis and Betty Carter.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.

Gospel Sounds Duet perform tomorrow

The Gospel Sounds Duet, featuring Steve and Apryl Caldwell, will present a program of Christian music at 6 p.m. tomorrow at Alberta Gary Memorial United Methodist Church, 9405 Guilford Road, Columbia.

A free will offering will be taken.

Gift & Thrift Shoppe holds bag sale

Trinity Episcopal Church's Gift & Thrift Shoppe, 6010 Waterloo Road, at Old Montgomery Road, Elkridge, is holding a bag sale this month through August. Clothes and other items will be sold for $3 a bag.

Store hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

`Vision of Jesus' seminar scheduled

Bon Secours Spiritual Center, 1525 Marriottsville Road, Marriottsville, will offer a seminar, "The Vision of Jesus in a Rapidly Changing World," from 5 p.m. June 25 to 4 p.m. June 29.

The Rev. Diarmuid O'Murchu, a priest and social psychologist who has spent his life in social ministry with those who are grieving, ill, homeless or refugees, will lead the seminar.

Christ Church Link offers aid referrals

Christ Church Link, a program of Christ Episcopal Church in Columbia, offers referrals to service agencies in Howard County and Maryland.

Callers can be referred to agencies that help prevent evictions and utility cutoffs, provide food, and help with employment and other needs.

Service hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays; 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays; and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays.
