Gilchrest to hold business forums

Republican U.S. Rep. Wayne T. Gilchrest will hold two forums to help business owners learn about opportunities for doing business with the federal government.

Speakers will include representatives of the General Services Administration, the Small Business Administration and the Procurement and Technical Assistance Centers.

Other guests will be small business owners who have been through the process and who will share tips and techniques. Various government agencies will have booths.

Forums will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon tomorrow at Edgewood Hall, Harford Community College, 401 Thomas Run Road, Bel Air; and 9:30 a.m. to noon June 19 at the Fountains, Sweetbay Room, 1800 Sweetbay Drive, Salisbury.

Credit union sets mortgage seminar

Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union will present a free "Understanding the Mortgage Closing Process" seminar from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 20 at the APG credit union Home Loan Center, 321 S. Main St.

Industry experts will show participants how to navigate from approval through closing on a mortgage loan, read the settlement statement, and understand the "whys" and "what fors" of title insurance, document stamps, transfer taxes and more.

A second seminar on "Youth Payday Expenses" will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. June 29 at the Abingdon library branch, 2510 Tollgate Road. Middle school pupils will learn how far a paycheck has to stretch to make ends meet in the Payday Lessons in Life game. Registration is through the Harford County Public Library.

Humane Society to raffle off cruise

The Humane Society of Harford County Inc. is selling raffle tickets for a five-night cruise on Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas.

Tickets are $5 each or five for $20.

The winner will depart Oct. 22 from Baltimore to Bermuda.

All proceeds benefit Humane Society programs.
