ELECTIONS

Dr. Nancy E. Davidson, director of the breast cancer program at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, has been elected president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology for a one-year term beginning in June 2007.

She assumed office as president-elect during ASCO's annual meeting in Atlanta last week.

Davidson has served in a variety of leadership positions with ASCO, including co-chairwoman of the Breast Cancer Surveillance Expert Panel. Davidson is a specialist in research into the role of hormones -- particularly estrogen -- on gene expression and cell growth, and has led several national clinical trials to explore potential breast cancer therapies.

Bill Braid, facility director at Union Memorial Hospital, has been elected president of the Chesapeake Area Society of Healthcare Engineers.

Braid, a Catonsville resident and member of the Maryland organization since 1984, will begin a two-year term in September. The society promotes the education of engineers in health care engineering in connection with scientific, medical and physical plant equipment.

PROMOTIONS

Harry Koffenberger, a former Baltimore police officer and senior director of security at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions' East Baltimore campus since 1994, has been named vice president of security for Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Koffenberger replaces Joseph Coppola, a former Secret Service official who will retire in August after 12 years on the job.

During 24 years on the city force, Koffenberger rose through the ranks, retiring as a major and commander of the Southeastern District, which includes Fells Point, Canton, Highlandtown and Little Italy.

Before joining Hopkins, Koffenberger served as a security consultant to the East Baltimore medical campus, developing crime awareness seminars for Hopkins staff.
