An Annapolis man was charged with second-degree murder yesterday in the strangling of a Laurel woman, county police said.

Christopher Perkins O'Brien, 33, of the 200 block of Winchester Beach Drive was charged in the death of his girlfriend, Katherine Randolph White, 32, at her home in the 3000 block of Style Ave. Sunday night.

Police spokeswoman Sara Schriver said O'Brien told police that he had fought with White after drinking.

White's mother discovered the body about 4 p.m. Tuesday after going to the residence to check on her daughter.

O'Brien was at the residence at the time and was taken into custody.

O'Brien, who also was charged with first-degree assault, is being held without bail at the Jennifer Road Detention Center.
