Robin Yerkes

For the second year in a row, the senior was named the county's Performer of the Year after an outstanding performance at the Class 4A East regional meet. Yerkes took home four gold medals, all from individual events. She captured the 100 in 12.2 seconds, the 200 in 25.0, the 100 high hurdles in 15.3 and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 45.3.

Only an illness prevented Yerkes from attending the first day of the Class 4A state championships, which forced her to miss qualifying for the 100, 200 and 100 high hurdles. Yerkes won the 100 in 12.37 at the county championships and also finished second in the 200, 100 high hurdles and 300 intermediate hurdles.

Skip Lee

The closest the Cougars had come to claiming the county title was a series of runner-up finishes in 1986, '87, '90, '93 and '94. That frustration came to an end last month when Chesapeake held off Arundel at the county championships.

Lee, whose Cougars placed second at the Class 4A East regional meet and tied for sixth at the state championships, was the county's Coach of the Year in indoor track and field after guiding the team to its first county crown in school history.
