All-anne Arundel County

Boys Track And Field

June 07, 2006

Matthew Centrowitz

For the third time this school year, the junior earned the county's top honor for his continued success at the county, Class 4A East regional and state levels.

Centrowitz, who was the county's Runner of the Year in cross country in the fall and Performer of the Year in indoor track and field in the winter, captured the 1,600 at the county championships in 4 minutes, 25.34 seconds - a time that ranks fifth among metro-area athletes. At the regional meet, he won the 3,200 in 9:23.2, which led the metro area until he shaved nearly 10 seconds off that time to claim the state crown in the 3,200.

Centrowitz's time of 9:13.68 at the state championships is the fastest produced by a Maryland athlete this spring.

Nigel Holder

The Mustangs, who last collected a county title in 1988, returned to the winner's podium last month when they outdistanced Arundel for the championship. After the victory, Meade athletes and supporters began chanting "Coach of the Year" as Holder took the first-place trophy.

Holder, who was the county's Coach of the Year in indoor track for guiding the Mustangs to their first county crown since 1997, also helped Meade captured the Class 4A East regional title.
