Khalil Uqdah

The senior went undefeated in the pole vault this spring, culminating in a repeat performance as the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association champion in that event. Uqdah's winning height of 15 feet was unmatched by anyone in the state, but it wasn't the first time he had cleared 15 feet.

Over the course of this spring, Uqdah vaulted 15 feet or higher six times. He hit 15 feet, 6 inches at the Arundel Relays and 15-7 during a league dual meet with eventual No. 1 Archbishop Curley.

Uqdah's crowning achievement was clearing 15-10 during a league meet with No. 4 McDonogh on May 3.

Gene Hoffman

Archbishop Curley

It's difficult to believe the Friars entered the season having never won the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association championship under Hoffman, who has been coaching at Archbishop Curley for 31 years.

But the Friars broke through this spring and gave Hoffman the trophy - which was renamed the Gene Hoffman Cup earlier in the season. Hoffman was the Baltimore City-County Coach of the Year in cross country in 2002.
