PERFORMER OF THE YEAR

Nick Hruch

Liberty

The junior was a consistent performer -- and source of points -- for the Lions this spring. At the county championships, Hruch captured the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 1.17 seconds and the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 4 inches.

Although he placed second in the high jump at the Class 2A West regional meet, he did win the 800 again, taking that event in 2:02.3. Hruch capped his season with runner-up showings in the 800 (1:56.84) and the high jump (6-6) at the state championships.

Hruch may be remembered more for his battle with Atholton junior Andrew Revelle in the final leg of the 3,200 relay. Hruch held off Revelle in the final 100 meters and Liberty picked up the gold medal in 8:05.97.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Tim Walsh

Francis Scott Key

The Eagles boasted perhaps one of the smallest teams in the metro area, but what the program lacked in quantity, Francis Scott Key made up for with quality.

With just 15 athletes, Walsh stressed getting contributions from everyone in as many events as they could take on, and the formula worked. The Eagles tied Westminster for the county championship and then edged Liberty for the Class 2A West regional crown, before slipping to eighth at the state meet.
