Duke University neared a decision yesterday on whether to reinstate the men's lacrosse program that was suspended in the aftermath of an alleged rape at an off-campus party.
On May 1, a committee appointed by Duke to study the team recommended the program be continued "with appropriate oversight."
Yesterday, ESPN's George Smith reported that the Duke administration had accepted that recommendation and decided to reinstate the program. But Duke issued a reply saying: "Media reports to the contrary, President [Richard] Brodhead has not yet made a decision on the future of men's lacrosse at Duke."
