Yankees update

Even with injury questions, the Yankees had won five straight games before last night's 7-6 loss to the Tigers. New York has held a lead in each of its past 13 games. In each of their past eight games, the Yankees have had at least 10 hits even though Johnny Damon (toe), Jorge Posada (hamstring) and Gary Sheffield (wrist) have been ailing. Sheffield joined Hideki Matsui (broken wrist) on the disabled list yesterday. And closer Mariano Rivera reported back spasms. The rash of injuries has forced the Yankees to use 20 outfield alignments, a major league high, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Johnson, who held the Orioles to three hits, all by Miguel Tejada, over eight innings in late April, has won two straight.
