Chamber to hold `Membership 101'

The Baltimore-Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce will hold a session of "Membership 101," a review of the benefits of chamber membership and their use in promoting business, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. June 8 at chamber offices, 312 Marshall Ave., Suite 104, Laurel. Admission is free.

"TIPS: Technique and Ideas for Professional Salespeople," a chamber program for business owners and sales professionals, will present a talk, "Avoid Annoying Things Our Clients Wish Salespeople Would and Would Not Do," from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. June 14. Admission is free to members; $20 for nonmembers.

Agriculture-linked resource on the Web

The Howard County Economic Development Authority is offering a Web-based resource for assessing, developing and marketing new agricultural enterprises and specialty food processing businesses: its "Electronic Agriculture Resource Center."

Information in the center is grouped into four areas: small-scale entrepreneurship; specialty food processing; value-added and alternative agriculture enterprises; and resources developed by the Howard County Agricultural Marketing Program.

In addition to information on business planning and management, the site, at, offers information on local, state and federal regulations and one-click access to county zoning and health code regulation.

Company sponsoring free play admission

Group 1 Software, a Pitney Bowes Co. with headquarters in Lanham, is sponsoring free admission for children to age 18 to the summer productions of King Lear and Taming of the Shrew by the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company.

The plays are being presented in alternate performances on weekends, Friday through July 9 at Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park, Ellicott City.

The sponsorship is intended to introduce young people to the excitement of a live Shakespeare production.
