A 23-year-old Jessup man has been charged with a string of robberies, carjackings, drug offenses and weapons violations, including armed robberies of two families at The Mall in Columbia in March.

After a citizen's tip, police said, they spotted Andrew Elliott Scott, of the 9200 block Volmerhausen Road, in the Kings Contrivance area Friday .

He had been sought on a warrant since April. He tried to flee after seeing the police and fought with officers, who found large quantities of prescription drugs on him after his arrest, police said. He's being held on $500,000 bail.

Scott is charged with stabbing one person and assaulting two others during an armed robbery attempt in North Laurel March 31. He is charged with two more assaults that day outside Laurel Woods Elementary School.

Scott is accused of robbing a man at gunpoint March 12 as the man and his wife buckled their children into a vehicle at The Mall in Columbia.

Scott is also accused of pointing a gun at a woman in the mall's parking garage March 1, sitting in the back seat of her car between her two children, and ordering them to go to a bank machine. The thief emptied the woman's wallet instead and fled the car.

Scott has been charged with three counts of armed carjacking, three of kidnapping, and five counts of armed robbery in addition to other charges.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman reported being raped early Saturday in Long Reach as she walked to work.

Police said the woman reported that a man grabbed her as she walked in the 5500 block of High Tor Hill between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. and forced her into woods, where she was raped.
