Immunization clinics scheduled

The county Department of Health will offer two "Don't Wait! Vaccinate!" immunization clinics for county children next month. The department encourages parents to get their children immunized before the summer break and back-to-school rush.

The schedule for the clinics:

Monday, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Glen Burnie Health Center, 416 A St. S.W., Glen Burnie, 410-222-6633.

Tuesday, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Parole Health Center, 1950 Drew St., Annapolis, 410-222-7247.

No appointment is necessary. Vaccinations are free, but donations up to $10 are appreciated.

To enter school in the fall, students in preschool through ninth grade are required to be immunized against hepatitis B (series of three shots administered over six months) and must show proof of vaccination against varicella (chickenpox). A medical diagnosis of chickenpox can be accepted in lieu of vaccination.

Pneumococcal vaccination is also required for children in preschool.

A complete list of required immunizations may be obtained from your child's health care provider, a school nurse or the Department of Health's Immunizations Services Program. 410- 222-4896.
