GIRLS

STATS -- Gearhart cleared 4 feet, 10 inches in the high jump to tie for second place at the county championship meet. Earlier, she also cleared 4-8 to take second at the Zimmerman Invitational.

SIDELINES -- After hip surgery to repair torn cartilage in December, doctors told the senior she would most likely never again be able to compete in track. Gearhart, however, was determined to do so, in part so she could continue to help fellow Liberty jumper Nick Hruch, who she regards as a little brother. Just three months after surgery, she was able to resume her jumping. Then, just a week after learning she had mononucleosis, she went on to compete in the county championship meet. An honor student, she plans to attend Delaware.
