2003 Crane Lake Petite Sirah ($6)

WINE FIND

May 31, 2006|By MICHAEL DRESSER

This smooth, ripe, earthy, medium-bodied California red wine from the underrated petite sirah grape is a spectacular value. It's not complex or ultra refined -- but at this price, who's complaining? Unlike some petite sirahs, it shows no tannic roughness, and there are appealing notes of blackberry and blueberry. It's worth laying in a case. Serve with pizza, grilled hamburgers, meatloaf.
