STATS -- Higgins, 5 feet 8 and 215 pounds, jumped 20 feet, 11 inches to win the Class 3A North regional title in the long jump, took another crown with his personal-best triple jump of 44-1, and was a runner-up in the discus on May 20.

SIDELINES -- A B student, Higgins, 17, was the Owls' scholar athlete nominee for football, earning Baltimore County 4A-3A All-Division honors as a receiver and defensive back, as voted by league coaches. After the season, Higgins, a senior, suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee and underwent surgery in December. As a result, Higgins switched to starting his jump off his left leg during competition. Named the Owls' Male Athlete of the Year, Higgins was a team captain in football and track.
