`Stepping Out' set for boys and girls, starting June 10

The Long Reach Community Association will offer "Stepping Out," a class in positive styles, attitudes, behaviors, manners and self-confidence, for boys and girls ages 8 to 13, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, June 10 through July 22 at Stonehouse in Long Reach Village Center.

The cost is $150.

The community association will offer "Top Dogg" martial arts classes from June 6 through Aug. 1. A tots class will be offered from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; a class for children ages 7 and older and adults will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost for the eight-week class is $169.

Cardio-Kickboxing, for ages 16 to adults, will be offered from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $189 a person; $220 for two for eight weeks.

A 5 percent discount is available for those living on Columbia Association-assessed property. Information: 410-730-8113.

La Leche League to meet Thursday

La Leche League of Columbia AM will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church, 6800 Oakland Mills Road.

The topic will be "Nutrition and Weaning."

The group offers information, guidance and support for breastfeeding mothers. Pregnant mothers and infants and toddlers are welcome.

Library to offer program for kids

The east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, will offer "Market Tales," a program of stories with summer themes, songs and a craft for children to age 5 (children to age 3 must be accompanied by an adult) at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays this week through Aug. 31 and 2:30 p.m. Thursdays, June 22 through Aug. 31.

The program will be held while the Farmers Market is in the library parking lot. Because space is limited, tickets will be distributed by the children's desk a half-hour before each event.

Around Town

Bridge -- A drop-in program on playing bridge is being offered from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesdays at the 50+ Center at the east Columbia library. A 30-minute lecture is included. Players of all levels are welcome to refresh skills, learn new bridge conventions and meet friends. Mentoring is available. The cost is $6. 410-290-5430.

Cleanup -- Kings Contrivance village has rescheduled its Earth Day open-space cleanup, which was rained out, for 10 a.m. Saturday at Amherst House. Participants can sign in at 10 a.m. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. Equipment and water will be provided. Community service certificates will be available.
