Tonight at Fletcher's

The lowdown -- Film School, a San Francisco five-piece band, channels rock songs with soaring guitars and dreary, detached vocals. The band, which draws from '80s alt-rock groups like the Cure, captures a massive, melancholy sound. The quintet is at Fletcher's tonight at 8. Folk rockers Margot and the Nuclear So and So's co-headline.

Death Fest At Sonar

The lowdown -- About 30 local, national and international metal acts fill the lineup of this weekend's Maryland Death Fest at Sonar. Bands include Disfear, Pungent Stench, Dismember, Vital Remains and Butcher ABC. The two-day event also includes vendors and band meet-and-greets and autograph signings. Expect to see plenty of black.

Sounds at the Square

The lowdown -- Local blues boogie band the Junkyard Saints kicks off Summer Sounds at the Square tomorrow. Weather permitting, Belvedere Square's free concert series continues every Friday through mid-September. Future bands on the schedule include Mambo Combo, Totally Confused, the Mooks and the Players.
