Severna Park senior pitcher Kaila Jenkins, last year's Metro Player of the Year, wants to close out her high school career like she started it - with a state title. Last week, she helped send the Anne Arundel County champion Falcons to yesterday's state semifinals with three victories to win the Class 3A East regional crown.

In the three wins - 6-1 vs. River Hill in the quarterfinals, 4-0 over J.M. Bennett in the semifinals and 1-0 against Long Reach in the finals - Jenkins didn't allow an earned run. She had 47 strikeouts to give her 302 for the season.

With two hits against River Hill, she tied the state record for hits in a career with 139. Going into last night's semifinal against Tuscarora, Jenkins had a 19-4 record with a 0.46 ERA. She was also hitting .465 with 26 runs and 25 RBIs.

Jenkins also became the county's all-time career leader in wins (67 going into last night) after surpassing 1989 Northeast graduate Jennifer Grinath (64).

Others considered: Danielle Ensley, Severna Park, lacrosse; Alison Smith, Atholton, track and field; Robin Yerkes, Broadneck, track and field.
