Activities planned at Annapolis center

The Annapolis Senior Center has announced the following activities:

Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m., discussion on retirement investment. Registration.

Friday, 10 a.m. to noon, Walking Club meets at Quiet Waters Park. Bring lunch. Registration.

June 1, Registration for summer session classes.

June 5, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., trip to South River Colony shopping center, Edgewater.

June 6, 1 p.m., music by Blues Works, with Judy Luis-Watson and Paul Wilson.

June 7, 9:30 a.m. to noon, free blood pressure and glucose screenings.

June 8 and 29, 12:30 p.m., Holiday Bazaar workshop.

June 9, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Walking Club will journey around downtown Annapolis. Event will be canceled if it rains.

June 12, 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., talk on reverse mortgages.

June 13, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Lunch Club travels to Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Annapolis. Registration.

June 14, 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Reiki clinic to be offered. Registration for appointment.

June 15, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., day at Mayo Beach.

June 19, 1 p.m., presentation on hospice living.

June 19 through 23, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., accepting donations for annual flea market. All items should be in good condition. No clothing.

June 20, 9:30 a.m. to noon, mini-massages for head, neck, hand and back. Call for appointment.

June 21, 1 p.m., Caribbean Paradise island party with Johnny Walker. Registration.

June 21, 9:30 a.m. to noon, free blood pressure and glucose screenings.

June 22, 6 a.m., trip to Deale for a day of fishing. Price of the trip is $50, which includes pole and bait. A tip for the mate who cleans the fish and takes care of you is expected. Bring hat, lunch, drinks and cooler for fish. Registration.

June 23, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., flea market.

June 26 and 27, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., AARP Safe Driving Course. Fee: $10, payable at time of registration.

June 29, 10 a.m. to noon, Wellness seminar. Brunch served at 10 a.m. Registration.

June 30, 10 a.m., to 1 p.m. Walking Club will go to Westfield Shoppingtown Annapolis.

O'Malley center sets trip to Massachusetts

The O'Malley Senior Center will offer a trip to Massachusetts from June 12 to 15. It will include three nights at the Holiday Inn Select, three breakfasts and dinners, guided tours of Boston and Salem, a whale-watching cruise, a visit to Quincy Market and a Boston Pops concert.

The trip costs $529 (double occupancy) or $669 (single), including taxes and tips. A deposit of $200 is required, with the balance due by June 2. An itinerary is available at the center, 1275 Odenton Road. 410-222-6227.

Seniors sought to teach life skills

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging is seeking "volunteer grandparents" to work with children 15 to 20 hours a week. Activities include mentoring, tutoring and giving advice on life skills, with extra attention for children in Head Start and special education or living in shelters and family-support centers.

Participants must be income-eligible and at least 60 years old. Benefits include a tax-free stipend, paid training, free transportation, sick leave, lunches and medical exams.
