1873: EVENTFUL CHEMISTRY LAB

From the 1873 diary of Edward A. Cockey, a student at Howard Institute, a private school in Glenwood:

"Tuesday, May 6: This day has been truly an eventful one. Two explosions whilst manufacturing Oxy-Hydrogen gas. Retort and generator, also alcohol lamp exploded and created quite an excitement."
