CENTRAL

Winters Mill plans spring concerts

Winters Mill High School instrumental music department will present its spring concerts at the school, 560 Gorsuch Road, Westminster, unless noted.

The orchestra and jazz ensemble, with the East Middle School jazz ensemble, will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The preparatory and percussion ensembles and symphonic winds will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The symphonic winds will play Sleep with the chorus concert at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The WMHS orchestra will play with the Francis Scott Key High orchestra and chorus for Vivaldi's Gloria at 7 p.m. Thursday at Francis Scott Key.

Memorial Day program planned

Sandymount Elementary School will hold its Memorial Day program at 9:30 a.m. Friday at 2222 Old Westminster Pike.

The program will be dedicated to two local military men who died in March. Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, 20, served as a Marine in Iraq. Henry Singer, 92, served in the Navy during World War II and was at the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

All active and inactive military personnel are invited. Breakfast will be at 8:30 a.m.

Any military personnel who can attend are asked to call Barbara Guthrie at 410-848-4562 by tomorrow so they may be recognized.

Finance session for teens is planned

The Westminster library branch, 50 E. Main St., will hold "Savings, Checking Accounts and Credit Cards" for teens at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Middle school dance is Friday at church

The Westminster High School Key Club will hold a middle school dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at Westminster United Methodist Church. Students from West, East and Shiloh middle schools are invited. Admission is $7.

Alliance plans storm drain stenciling

The Prettyboy Watershed Alliance will sponsor storm drain stenciling projects in Manchester.

Volunteers and residents will stencil conservation messages on the storm drains that lead into George's Creek and Graves Run and receive street and lawn runoff during rain and snow.

Stenciling events will be held from 12:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. today and 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Manchester.

Lions Club holds Hampstead Day

The Hampstead Lions Club will hold its 33rd annual Hampstead Day event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday along Main Street (Route 30).

More than 150 vendors will line the streets along the curb between Lower Beckleysville Road and Route 482.

No parking will be allowed along Main Street from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the event.

Motorists traveling through Hampstead should expect delays due to heavy traffic during the event.

Senior Center announces events

The North Carroll Senior Center, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, has announced activities.

The Site Council will meet at 11 a.m. tomorrow.

Sandy Sites from Carroll Area Transit System will discuss CATS and its services at 11 a.m. May 30.

Openings remain for the trip to Wildwood, N.J., June 18-22. The cost is $340 per person, double occupancy. Reservation deadline has been extended to get enough people to take the trip.

Book club -- North Carroll branch library, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, will hold the North Carroll Book Club for adults at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow to discuss The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler. 410-386-4488.

Fire company to hold safety day for kids

The Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company will hold its Children's Public Safety Day from noon to 4 p.m. today on the training grounds at 47 Memorial Drive.

Fire equipment and information displays will be featured. Activities will include an auto extrication demonstration, 911 training, a children's fire-safety trailer, and state police medevac helicopter.

Participating agencies will include the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Fire Marshal's Office, Taneytown Police Department, Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Poison Control, Carroll County Health Department and Chesapeake Search Dogs.

Lehigh cement firm to sponsor Depot Days

Lehigh/Heidelberg Cement will sponsor Depot Days in Union Bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the plant on Main Street.

This celebration of trains will feature games, crafts, food, Lehigh tours, train memorabilia and exhibits.

School alumni group schedules banquet

The Taneytown High School Alumni Association will hold its annual banquet June 24 at the Pleasant Valley Fire Hall.

Festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with a social time, and a buffet with fried shrimp and ham at 6:30 p.m. Tables will be assigned according to year of graduation.

A roll call of classes will be held, with time allotted to reunion classes for introductions and remarks.

The cost is $15, due by June 8. Checks made payable to the THS Alumni Association, with names and graduation year, should be sent to Charlotte Bollinger, 308 Taney Heights Drive, Taneytown 21787.
