Olive Garden sends manager to Italy

Elsayed Ragab, a Bel Air resident and the general manager of the Olive Garden on Perry Hall Boulevard in Baltimore, was recently selected to train at the company's Culinary Institute of Tuscany in Italy.

The weeklong training program, now in its sixth year, is designed to expose 100 Olive Garden managers to Italian dining experience.

The managers learn traditions of Italian cooking, such as layering sauces and cooking al dente pasta.

Patty's certified as a female business

Patty's Gifts and Baskets LLC, a corporate gift consulting firm, has been recertified as a Women's Business Enterprise by the Women Presidents' Educational Organization-Washington, D.C.

The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51 percent owned, operated and controlled by a woman or women. Patty's product line consists of themed gift baskets, flowers, fruit baskets, promotional gifts, a gourmet food line and cookie bouquets.

Workers at Huber have safety day

About 150 employees of Huber Engineered Materials in Havre de Grace recently participated in a safety day that focused on safety awareness training.

The event included a presentations on high voltage electrical hazards and on gas emergencies.

The program also included demonstrations by a state police medevac helicopter, and the Havre de Grace Police Department's canine unit.

The American Cancer Society provided information and the American Red Cross gave employees an opportunity to donate blood.

Arena Club to open water sports site

The Arena Club has announced plans to open a water sports complex in June.

The complex will include a swim school area, feature a built-in water basketball court and a removable water volleyball court. It also contains a 10-foot diving well and three water park slides.

Although the Arena Club is open to members only, the club will be holding special events for nonmembers including a teen night and luaus. A grand-opening pool party will be held July 15 for members and invited guests.
