Wayne Wilbur Mause Sr., a retired truck driver and avid hunter, died of complications from diabetes Monday at Union Memorial Hospital.

The Middle River resident was 65.

Mr. Mause was born in Baltimore and raised in Dundalk.

He was a truck driver for more than 20 years for Smith's Transfer before retiring in 1991 on a medical disability.

He had lived in Middle River since 2003, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting deer and wild turkey. He also liked collecting stamps and coins.

"He was an amazing man who had hands of steel and a heart of gold," said Sabrina Mause, a granddaughter who lives in Baltimore.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Gray Manor, where services were held yesterday.

Also surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former True Boyd; two sons, Wayne W. Mause Jr. of Spring Grove, Pa., and John W. Mause of Middle River; two daughters, Trudy A. Neumann of Harmon, W.Va., and Laura A. Anderson of Purcellville, Va.; and 10 other grandchildren.
