Jim Rouse fund widens its offerings

The Jim Rouse Entrepreneurial Fund, a Howard County funding source for new and expanding businesses, is offering loans for owner-occupied real estate. The fund has increased the maximum business loan from $100,000 to $150,000.

Businesses can qualify for an owner-occupied real estate loan if the business and the real estate is in Howard County. At least 75 percent of the space must be occupied by the owner. The minimum down payment by the borrower must be 5 percent and the rate for the loan, prime plus 3 percent. There is no prepayment penalty.

JREF will hold its third fundraiser, "Take Hold. It's Time to Ride!" from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow at Harley-Davidson of Maryland, 7010 Troy Hill Drive, Elkridge. The fund's executive director, Michael A. Mobley, and its board of directors will host the event. The cost is $35.

In the Center for Business and Technology Development in Columbia, JREF is a private, not-for-profit funding source for Howard County start-up companies.

NAACP plans session for homebuyers

The Howard County NAACP will sponsor a First-time Buyers Workshop from noon to 2 p.m. May 27 at the Howard County Center of African American Culture, 3434 Vantage Point Road, Columbia.

The workshop will focus on information that can help buyers purchase their first home. Discussion will include the sale and rental of homes for all consumers.

Leonard Campbell, senior loan officer with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage will lead the discussion.

`Resource Guide' being updated

The Howard County Department of Citizen Services' Office on Aging is updating its Resource Guide for 2007. The publication will be available in October.

Formerly Senior Resources, the publication will target people with disabilities, caregivers and others.

Free listings are available to organizations that meet certain criteria. The application deadline is May 24.

Trade show slated June 9 in Columbia

The Network Referral Group will hold its sixth Maryland Summer Summit and Trade Show from 8:30 a.m. to noon June 9 at the Hilton Columbia, 5485 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia.

Admission is $30 for members; $40 for nonmembers. Trade show tables in the ballroom are available for $350; tables in the atrium cost $500.
