Archbishop Spalding pitcher Stephanie Weigman saved her best for the biggest time of the season last week, leading the No. 1 Cavaliers to their second straight Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference crown. In three playoff wins, the junior standout didn't allow an earned run in 19 innings, giving up 12 hits and striking out 22 of the 72 batters she faced.

Weigman's toughest assignment came in a 1-0 win over Pallotti in Friday's semifinal round. Clinging to a 1-0 lead that came in the first inning, she allowed six hits and struck out eight, working her way out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning. In the championship game, a 4-1 win over Seton Keough, she took a shutout into the last inning before the Gators scored an unearned run. She also batted .333 for the week with two runs scored.

A second-team All-Metro selection last spring, Weigman is 15-3 this season with a 0.64 ERA and 180 strikeouts in 121 innings.

Others considered: Michelle Donadio, Franklin, track and field; Alexis Hurd, North Carroll, track and field; Lidia Sanza, St. Paul's, lacrosse.
