McDonogh's Gross good as four golds

Sport Track and field

Senior Jason Gross accounted for 40 of McDonogh's 83 points by collecting four gold medals as the No. 4 Eagles placed fourth at the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association championships at Calvert Hall on Saturday.

He captured the 200 meters in 22.30 seconds, the 400 in 51.27, the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 4 1/2 inches and the triple jump with 44-3 1/2 . Gross' victory in the long jump wasn't sealed until his final attempt, when he moved from fourth to first with that distance. His leap in the long jump is second best by a metro-area athlete this spring, and his time in the 200 ranks sixth. Gross leads the area in the triple jump with a distance of 46-7 1/4 , which he registered at the Penn Relays last month.

A two-time All-Metro selection in track and field, Gross plays the tenor saxophone for the school's jazz band and sing tenor in the gospel choir. He said he is considering offers from Purdue, Rutgers and Texas Tech.

Others considered: Elliott Galeone, Fallston, track; Matt Higgins, Franklin, lacrosse; Andrew Revelle, Atholton, track.
