No. 7 Maryland (12-7) @No. 5 North Carolina (12-5)
Time -- 1 p.m.
Site -- Fetzer Field, Chapel Hill, N.C.
Outlook -- This will be the 18th meeting between the Atlantic Coast Conference foes since the Tar Heels' program began in 1996. The Terps hold an 11-6 edge in the series, but the Tar Heels won, 11-9, on April 15. Both teams are regulars in the NCAA tournament, but Maryland is the gold standard with 22 appearances - 17 in a row - and nine championships. The young Terps have had stellar moments this season, but have also been inconsistent. Delia Cox leads the Terps with 56 goals and 22 assists, followed by Kelly Kasper (Century) with 43 and 25. Sophomore goalie Allie Buote (St. Mary's) has been strong, backing up an inexperienced defense led by veteran Becky Clipp (Catonsville). The Tar Heels, who have 18 Baltimore women on the roster, boast a balanced attack led by Mount Hebron graduates Stephanie Scurachio (28 goals, 11 assists) and Melissa McCarthy (24, 14). All-ACC goalie Kristen Hordy leads the defense.
