Park, John Carroll advance to MIAA `B' semifinals

Brad Mendelson had 17 saves as Park came back to earn a 5-3 win over Sts. Peter and Paul yesterday in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference lacrosse quarterfinals.

The host Bruins (10-4) overcame a 3-2 halftime deficit and were led by Oliver Weinberg with two goals. Lucas Effinger had 14 saves for the Sabres.

Park will play Archbishop Curley in the semifinals Tuesday at 3 p.m.

John Carroll 9, Annapolis Area Christian School 6 -- Matt Rayburn scored four goals to lead the host Patriots (9-4) past the Eagles in the MIAA B Conference quarterfinals. John Carroll will travel to face Pallotti in the semifinals Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Chapelgate 12, Towson Catholic 8 -- Tom Peach led the Flames (10-6) with four goals and three assists in the MIAA C Conference semifinals. Chapelgate will play Cardinal Gibbons in the final at Johns Hopkins on Friday at 3 p.m.

Cardinal Gibbons 14, Lutheran 5 -- Josh Skene scored six goals and had an assist to power the Crusaders (14-0) past the Saints in the MIAA C Conference semifinals.

Girls lacrosse

Garrison Forest 12, IND 11 -- Down by three goals with 90 seconds left, the visiting Grizzlies rallied to score four goals - including two by Kate Tracey and the game-winner by Alex Goldstein with 25 seconds to go - to beat the Indians in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference quarterfinals.


No. 6 Centennial 2, Bel Air 1 -- Michelle Grap hit a home run in the fifth inning to give the host Eagles (16-3) the win over the Bobcats in a Class 3A East first-round game.

Atholton 12, Fairmont Heights 0 -- Right-hander Nicole Massarelli (8-10) pitched a perfect game, going five innings and striking out 14 of 15 batters as the Raiders (8-10) no-hit the host Hornets (4-9) in a Class 2A South first-round game.

North County 2, South River 1 -- Roxanne Fisher hit a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to give the Knights (11-9) the victory in a Class 4A West first-round game.


River Hill 4, Mount Hebron 3 -- Austin Drewyer hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh to score the winning run for the Hawks (14-6) in a Class 3A East first-round game.

Loch Raven 2, Overlea 1 -- James Pumphrey drove in a run in the fourth inning and scored the game-winner in the ninth to lift the visiting Raiders over the Falcons (11-7) in a Class 2A North first-round game.
