Fallston boys, girls sweep UCBAC titles

Bel Air boys, Aberdeen girls finish second

Track and Field

Fallston took both the boys and girls track and field titles at the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference championships yesterday at Rising Sun in Cecil County.

Trailing by three points to Bel Air entering the long jump, Brandon Kougl and Robert Bass finished second and fifth, respectively, to give the Cougars boys their first conference title.

The girls team won its second straight championship by edging Aberdeen, 99-93.

Fallston was led by Yale-bound Kristin Baxivanos, who won the 100-meter dash (12.78) and 100-meter hurdles (16.79). She also finished second in the 300 hurdles and third in the long jump.

Paris Williams led Aberdeen, winning the 200- (27.79) and 400-meter (1:00.24) dashes. C. Milton Wright, Edgewood and Bel Air rounded out the top five.

"Just to win these things is hard to do with 14 teams being involved," Cougars girls coach Jimmy Grant said. "You have to get a bunch of strong performances and string them together. For us to be able to win, I think we felt fortunate."
