A three-car accident on Interstate 70 in Baltimore County, though described as minor by police, resulted in a traffic nightmare yesterday for motorists late in the evening rush.

The accident occurred about 6:45 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near the Baltimore Beltway as a car rear-ended another vehicle, causing a chain reaction, said State Police Cpl. Douglas Forrester. He added that no serious injury resulted.

The roadway was closed as crash debris was cleared, and traffic was flowing by 8 p.m. But before then, "we were getting calls that it was backed up into Howard County," Forrester said.
