A 60-year-old man was slashed, possibly with a machete, and robbed yesterday outside a Wachovia bank in Crofton, Anne Arundel County police said.

The man was walking from his vehicle to the bank in the Crofton Centre plaza on Route 3 about 9:30 a.m. when two men approached him, cut him on the legs and lower back and stole an undisclosed amount of cash from him.

Police did not identify the victim, who was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

According to police, witnesses saw the attackers flee in a van. Police later found a white van, which might have been stolen, outside the former Crofton library in the plaza.

A witness told police that two men ran from that area and got into a blue Ford pickup with possible Maryland license plate number 93N-752.

County police urged anyone with information to call 410-222-3566 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-7LOCKUP.
