BOSTON -- Erik Bedard looked toward the visiting dugout several times, undoubtedly wondering if relief was on its way. And finally Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo had watched Bedard struggle long enough, walking briskly to the mound to take the ball from his 27-year-old left-hander with still no outs in the third inning.

Over his final 59 pitches last night, Bedard was a shell of his usual self. His normally sharp off-speed pitches were frequently off-target and his normally electric fastball was getting pounded.
