Poly won two championships at yesterday's Baltimore City/District IX tennis tournament. Blair Fleet won her first singles title for the Engineers after twice falling in the finals, beating Shatira Kimbrough (Western), 7-5, 6-2.
The girls doubles team of Jamie Fleet and Kristen Spence gave Poly its second title. Fleet and Spence rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ivy Perez and Kendra Huggins of Western.
Anthien Nguyen and Elton Buckett of DuBois were the only repeat champions. The boys doubles team pulled out a 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Jackie Thomas and Isiah Scott from Banks.
Markus Addison of City denied Poly a third championship with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) win over Joseph Pate in the boys singles final. In another doubles final, Michael Delair and Mariah Monroe from Digital Harbor topped Brittany Luster and Eileen Eldridge from Western, 6-2, 6-4.
Team scores will be announced today.
North County 1, No. 2 Glen Burnie 0 -- Brittany McKenzie hit an RBI single to center to give the Knights (9-9) the upset over the visiting Gophers (14-4). Heather Karasek threw a complete-game shutout giving up seven hits and striking out 13. Kelly Leary had seven strikeouts for Glen Burnie.
No. 10 Institute of Notre Dame 3, No. 11 St. Vincent Pallotti 0 -- Colleen Matthes pitched a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts for the visiting Indians (16-6) as they defeated the Panthers (16-7).
