Rangers update

The Rangers are the surprise first-place team in the AL West after completing a two-game sweep of Tampa Bay last night. Texas has won four straight and eight of 11. Often maligned for their pitching, the Rangers had a respectable 4.53 ERA before last night's 7-5 win. Francisco Cordero lost his job as closer after blowing five of eight saves. Akinori Otsuka, acquired in an offseason trade with San Diego, has three saves in his place. Reigning AL batting champ Michael Young leads the Rangers with a .345 average. Phil Nevin, who invoked his no-trade clause and vetoed a trade to the Orioles for Sidney Ponson last year, has a team-high 23 RBIs.
