Activities planned at Annapolis center

The Annapolis Senior Center has announced the following activities:

Today, 9:30 a.m. to noon, free blood pressure screenings.

Tomorrow, 11:30 a.m., Lunch Club will meet at the Rockfish in Annapolis. Registration.

Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m., volunteers meet for holiday bazaar workshop.

Friday, 10 a.m., Walking Club meets at Westfield Shoppingtown Annapolis for lunch and exercise.

Tuesday, 12:15 p.m., Peggy Moran, program director for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, discusses the group.

Tuesday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Cinco de Mayo celebration with music, dancing and nonalcoholic margaritas.

May 10, 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., monthly Reiki clinic. Reiki is a natural method of healing that balances and adjusts the body's energy. Appointment required.

May 12, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Walking Club visits Tawes Garden. Event will be canceled if it rains. Registration.

May 16, 1 p.m., Mother's Day tea, featuring a discussion about teas and the history of tea.

May 17, 9:30 a.m. to noon, free blood pressure screenings.

May 17, 10 a.m., Van shopping trip to the Wal-Mart on Ordnance Road in Glen Burnie. Lunch on your own. Registration.

May 18, 12:30 p.m., holiday bazaar workshop meets.

May 18, 12:45 p.m., Advisory Council meets. Public welcome.

May 19, 10 a.m., Walking Club meets at Westfield Shoppingtown Annapolis. Club will return to the center at noon for a "Bay in a Box" program. Registration.

May 25, 12:30 p.m., discussion on retirement investment strategies. Registration.

May 26, 10 a.m. to noon, Walking Club meets at Quiet Waters Park. Bring lunch. Registration.

CASOS to honor volunteers, clubs

Community Advocates for Senior Opportunities and Services will hold its 37th anniversary Salute to Seniors luncheon at noon Tuesday at La Fontaine Bleu, 7514 S. Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie. Awards will be presented to outstanding seniors and clubs for their community involvement. Tickets are $20 and may be reserved by calling 410-761-1769 or 410-789-2192.

O'Malley center plans trip to Mass.

O'Malley Senior Center will offer a trip to Massachusetts from June 12 to 15. The trip will include three nights at the Holiday Inn Select, three breakfasts and dinners, guided tours of Boston and Salem, and a whale-watching cruise. Also included are a visit to Quincy Market and a Boston Pops concert.

The cost of the trip is $529 (double occupancy) or $669 (single); all tips and taxes are included. A deposit of $200 is required with the balance due by June 2. An itinerary is available at the center, 1275 Odenton Road. 410- 222-6227.

S. County center schedules trips

Trips scheduled by the South County Senior Center include:

Tuesday, B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, lunch at Chiapparelli's in Little Italy. The cost is $69.

May 23 and 24, trip to Philadelphia to visit Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell Center, Christ Church Cemetery and the National Constitution Center. There also will be a trip to the Italian Market and Termini Brothers Pasticceria. The cost of the trip, which includes transportation, meals, lodging, baggage and gratuities, is $280 (double occupancy) or $345 (single).

Seniors sought to teach life skills

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging is seeking "grandparents" to work with children 15 to 20 hours a week. Activities include mentoring, tutoring and giving advice on life skills, with extra attention for children in Head Start, special education and children living in shelters and family-support centers.

Participants must be income-eligible and at least 60 years old. Benefits include a tax-free stipend, paid training, free transportation, sick leave, lunches and medical exams.
