River Hill's Ridge draws attention

A 6-foot, 190-pound faceoff midfielder who is bound for Sacred Heart, Peter Ridge dominated in Howard County victories over Long Reach and then-No. 14 Mount Hebron by scoring five goals and winning 22 of 32 faceoffs, as the 12th-ranked Hawks remained unbeaten at 11-0, 8-0 in the county. In a 17-3 rout of Long Reach on April 25, Ridge had three goals and won nine of 11 faceoffs.

In Friday night's 14-10 win over Mount Hebron, Ridge scored twice and won 13 of 21 faceoffs, sparking an 11-0 run to overcome a 10-3 second-quarter deficit. Ridge, who runs a 4.6-second 40-yard dash, teamed with John Kim to win 10 of 11 second-half faceoffs against Mount Hebron. In 11 games, Ridge has 23 goals, 11 assists, 95 ground balls and has won 108 of 148 faceoffs (73 percent).

As an inside linebacker last fall in football, Ridge helped River Hill post an 11-2 record a Class 3A state semifinal berth.
