It was a game decided by the thinnest of margins, a split second in the fifth inning, and another one in the ninth.

The winning run scored when Seattle first baseman Richie Sexson's foot touched home plate, just as Orioles catcher Ramon Hernandez applied the tag. The tying run was prevented when Adrian Beltre's throw disappeared into the outstretched glove of Sexson, just as Corey Patterson was about to step on first base.
