Town Center election results

Gail Broida was elected as the Town Center representative to the Columbia Council yesterday when she defeated incumbent Jud Malone, 182-143. Burt Knauft and Linda Wengel were also elected to the Town Center Village Board. Last weekend, Columbia residents elected members to the other open seats on the Columbia Council and respective village boards. The Columbia Council meets once a year, in May, when elected representatives appoint themselves to the board of directors for the Columbia Association.

Woman dies after car runs off road

A 20-year-old Ellicott City woman was killed early yesterday after the 2001 Kia Rio she was driving ran off of Montgomery Road just east of Bonnie Branch Road, Howard County police said. Karen Marie Schall of the 5300 block of Briar Oak Court was killed after the vehicle crashed into a tree, and then went through a fence and storage shed before stopping next to a home, police said. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, police said.

Anne Arundel: Linthicum

Two men found fatally shot

Anne Arundel County police, responding to a report of a shooting yesterday afternoon at a business complex on Raynor Avenue in Linthicum, discovered two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Both men were shot in the upper body and were pronounced dead at the scene at 2:26 p.m., police said. One victim was seated in a white sedan, and the other was found outside the car. Police have not identified the victims or established a motive.
